efore I was born my mother taught me my first lesson. As with all wild animals I learned that which takes humans many years to know, if ever. And the lesson was simple, and my mother was the teacher. For she took minerals from her own bones to make bones for me. She took food from her own blood to feed me a yellow yolk. She carried me in an egg in her own body, inside close to her heart. The lesson was simple and common to mothers. Love is a verb. When I was born I knew this already, gleaned from my mother’s body.
